Helsinki Education Week will be organised virtually in November – Submit your event proposal by 5 October

This year, Helsinki Education Week will be organised as a series of online-events. As usual, the event will take place in November, more precisely on November 2-6 2020.

As in previous years, Helsinki Education Week celebrates learning in Helsinki in many different ways. The theme for this year is Learning by Design. The program highlights the active role of the learners and the cooperation between different actors. “This year has been demanding and required exceptional skills to modify and adapt solutions for the new situation from both learners and experts working in the education sector. Helsinki Education Week highlights the good work that has been done,” says Liisa Pohjolainen, Executive Director of the City of Helsinki Education Division.

The virtual implementation enables participation from around the world

“Previous Helsinki Education Week events and our other international activities have shown that Helsinki and the city’s schools, kindergartens and educational establishments generate great international interest. Helsinki is a forerunner in education. Last year, over 300 visitors from around the world participated in Helsinki Education Week. This year, the whole event will be implemented virtually, which enables participation from other parts of Finland and the world”, says Executive Director Pohjolainen.

“2020 has been an exceptional year. Now, more than ever, we need collaboration and sharing of best practices across school and country borders, as learning practices are changing,” says Saku Tuominen, Creative Director at HundrED, the official partner of the event. “Although we cannot organise any physical events this year”, Tuominen continues, “Helsinki Education Week will be offering many interesting and rewarding events.”

Event proposals can be submitted until 5 October

Anyone working in the Helsinki education sector can propose virtual events. The events can be aimed at educators, pupils and students, parents and guardians or anyone who is interested in learning.

Event proposals must be submitted by 4pm on Monday 5 October 2020. Instructions for submitting event proposals.

The Helsinki Education Week production team will be selecting event proposals which are best suited for the theme. All events will be free-of-charge for participants. Organisers will not receive any payments or reimbursement for organising their event from the Helsinki Education Week team.
