Helsinki Education Week 2020 offers more than 100 online events!

Helsinki Education Week will this year be organised as a series of online events on 2-6 November 2020. The event week offers a diverse programme, including workshops, lectures, discussions, exchanges of experiences, and networking. The virtual implementation enables participation from all over Finland and the world.

This year’s theme, Learning by Design, will be implemented and experienced in a variety of ways during the event week. The programme focuses on cooperation, well-being and e-learning. The programme is targeted at different stakeholders: teachers and other education professionals, children and student groups, parents and guardians – essentially, at anyone interested in learning and its development. All events are free of charge.

“At Helsinki Education Week, we want to share experiences about creative solutions and innovative ways of working that can be used both now and in the future. The week’s programme reflects how people in education have shaped the doing and learning according to the circumstances. Despite the exceptional circumstances, we want to come together virtually to learn from each other and to look confidently towards the future”, says Liisa Pohjolainen, Head of the City of Helsinki’s Education Division.

The event week’s programme has now been published and is available on the Helsinki Education Week website. The events are divided into four different categories:

  • Hands On events consist of various workshops and activities, ranging from virtual museum visits to joint origami workshops.
  • Dialogue discussion sessions involve exchanging experiences about language learning and sustainable development, for example.
  • Network events offer opportunities to network with Finnish and international educational organisations, or to learn more about Stadin AO, the Helsinki Vocational College and Adult Institute, among other things.
  • Explore events delve into educational innovations and learning environments. These events offer the chance to meet other learners from around the world, and to learn more about evaluation tools and means for artistic expression.

The pinnacle of international cooperation: Education innovations will be launched live

Helsinki Education Week coincides with the three-day long HundrED Innovation Summit. This year, the event will be held virtually and is open to everyone. So far, more than 1,000 people interested in education from around the world have registered for the event. As part of the Innovation Summit, HundrED will announce 100 innovations for developing education in 2021.

“HundrED’s global innovator partners are organising more than 20 events during Helsinki Education Week. It has been nice to see how the cooperation from previous years has both deepened and grown,” says Saku Tuominen, Founder and Creative Director of HundrED.

In 2020, Helsinki Education Week will be organised for the third time. Unlike previous years, the programme will be held entirely online. Over 160 event proposals were submitted to the event week, and over 100 were selected to the programme. Helsinki Education Week is organised by the City of Helsinki’s Education Division in collaboration with HundrED.
