Helsinki model: How to tackle climate change with curriculum and creativity?
We had a dream. Every upper-secondary school student would take an inspiring, multidisciplinary and action-oriented course on climate change. This dream is coming true now. In Helsinki, Finland.
In the new era of the global climate change and Greta Thunberg we wanted to respond to the students' climate anxiety and give them a chance to make an impact on their and our future - with the help of education.
As the upper secondary curriculum is going to be renewed in Finland, the City of Helsinki wants to take upper secondary education ambitiously and strongly towards the future. Students' strong agency and co-agency, 21st century skills, the whole Helsinki as a learning environment, international activities, as well as the co-operation with universities and business sector are new priorities for the upper secondary education in Helsinki.
All upper secondary schools of the City of Helsinki will organize climate change themed courses starting in autumn 2021. Experiments for that are already going on in these schools.
In this webinar, the experts of the City of Helsinki Education Division will talk about the plans and experiments and share their thoughts on the topic over a cup of coffee.
Get inspired and empowered about novel educational solutions to tackle the climate crisis! We can make a difference.
