Bridge workshop at Arkki
This event is for students / student group (max 25 students + teacher). Workshop is for 7th - 9th graders.
The Bridge workshop is a classic workshop introducing engineering and structures through an experiential learning process. The participants will design and construct bridges individually or in groups, using wooden sticks and flexible wood sheets.
The workshop includes an inspirational lecture in which the significance of an arch in construction, as well as the significance of the deck, arch, support pillars and trussed construction are introduced.
The objective of this workshop is for the students to become familiar with different bridge structures and their durability through exploration, building and experimentation. The aim is to construct a bridge construction that is light but as durable as possible and can take the weight of the “people” that stand on it, that is, an agreed weight.
The weight is agreed for each group depending on the age and skill level of participants. The rigidity and durability of the structure is tested in practice during the work process.
