Air quality issues and climate change in environmental education
Environmental services of the city of Helsinki has an on-going project called Ilmari, the climate-smart traveler, that teaches pupils in the 5th and 6th grades about the impact that traffic has on climate change, air quality and the environment.
The Ilmari-educator organizes workshops where young people learn about climate-smart ways to travel and get to see with their own senses, how traffic affects their daily lives.
Ilmari has portable air quality sensors in the workshops that are used to measure air quality around each participating school. This makes the impact of traffic more visible and understandable.
There is also a mobile game built around the themes of the workshop, that will be showcased in the HEW event.
At the end of the presentation there is room for discussion and questions.
Attention! If you are signing up as a class/teacher groups, remember to set yourself as the attendee and add the number of additional attendees (class/group size) via the button "Add group".
